I would promote the horror genre in three different ways, which would include adult fiction books/e-books/audiobooks, adult graphic novels, and adult DVDs. I would probably feature this promotion during the month of October to capitalize on the popular interest in Halloween.
Book Display: “Formula of Fear”
The book display would feature adult fiction books and adult graphic novels. The display sign would include the title of the display, “Formula of Fear,” as well as common elements of the horror genre such as “psychological torment,” “palpable tension,” “compelling motive,” “graphic imagery,” and “killer ending” in smaller text.
Movie Display: “Horror: Classic vs. Modern”
The movie display would feature bundles including both the classic and modern versions of popular horror movies such as IT, Poltergeist, Pet Sematary, Amityville Horror, and Halloween. Additionally, each bundle would include a package of microwave popcorn and a bookmark listing which of our horror movies we also carry in book, e-book, and/or audiobook format.
Game: “Can You Guess These Famous Horror Movie Villains?”
On a common area wall or end cap, I would display printed, and numbered, photos of popular horror movie villains with the above title. Paper slips and pencils would be made available for people to write the names of the villains which correspond with the numbers. Patrons can turn their papers into the front desk to enter into a drawing for a “swag bag” which would include library-branded things like: a bag, a pen/pencil, a bookmark, a note pad, a PopSocket, etc.

This is a fantastic idea! I love how you did not choose one way to promote, but three. I especially love the game you chose and think that would be a great way to interact with patrons and have them take time to stop and really see what you are doing with your displays. Timing your display to coincide with a time people tend to be more apt to checking out those materials is a smart move and will increase your circulation statistics. This is so fun!
ReplyDeleteI love that you tied in the horror display with a month when people are wanting this vibe! We definitely get more questions about horror materials in October, so it's a great time to do this type of display. I really liked the inclusion of the game! That's a great way to get patrons to interact! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love that you made the display interactive for patrons to have fun with it. October would be the best time for a display like this, but you could still promote this theme anytime especially if a new horror movie releases. I also like how you created a display for horror movies to compare classic and modern versions. This would allow patrons to see the original and how the new version has changed in film and CGI.
ReplyDeleteI love that you came up with three separate (but linked) ideas. I also loved the interactive component. Way to think outside the box. Full points!
